Sundae Sunday is my online buddy Diane's invention. Today, all of the world, we are all posting ice cream recipes to share and compare. Since it is summer and the temperatures are hovering around 100 daily, I decided to cheat a little bit and make ice cream mix-ins and buy my favorite Haagen Daz vanilla bean ice cream instead. I made two different things. First, I made the Maida Heatter Palm Beach brownies. They have walnuts chopped inside and a layer of Peppermint Patties in the middle. They are rich, amazing and ultra-fudgey. They are one of the only brownies where a tiny portion is truly enough. We chopped these into little squares, froze them, and mixed them in with vanilla ice cream. They would also be good as an ice cream sandwich with brownie/ice cream/brownie construction.
We came home early from the beach yesterday so we could have ice cream and talk about our day. A new favorite activity is catching tiny crabs and snails at the beach and creating habitats for them. We are releasing them back into the wild before we get home but I found a tiny crab shell in the laundry today so I think some of them are avoiding detection.
The second mix-in I made was the Peanut Butter variation of the Korova Wold Peace Cookie. I used Caitlin's recipe from Oprah.com and thought they were amazing with chocolate ice cream.

Both the cookies and the brownies look fantastic. Those borownie sound evil and delicious!
You might be the only person around who beats the heat by choosing to bake brownies and cookies and buy ice cream rather than buying the baked goods and freezing ice cream! But I'm super-glad you did, because both of these treats look amazing!
So funny about the crab shell. Boy do those things stink if you don't find them in time, but maybe a trip through the laundry takes care of that problem?
What a fun entry for the Sundae Sunday, those look cute and like a party all by themselves.
These both look like terrific add-ins, Mary! I have several of Maida Heatter's books, but have not tried this brownie recipe. And I saw that Peanut Butter version of World Peace Cookies on Oprah's Web site, but have not gotten around to making them. You've inspired me to make both!
What an amazing duo! Looks like everyone enjoyed them and the weekend turned out to be a hit! Nicely done!
