Salmon in a Jar and Potatoes in a Jar, this week's
French Fridays with Dorie, is the perfect summer meal when you would rather be looking at this....

(
The Sunflower Maze at Lyman Orchards.) Dorie Greenspan says that salmon in a jar is "straddling a space between gravlax and tartare" and she is right. Take raw fish and rub it with a blend of sugar and salt. The next day, put it in a jar with olive oil, carrots, onions, and seasonings. That is it. Seriously easy stuff. The potatoes in a jar is equally easy but just requires the cook to boil the potatoes till fork tender before assembling the jar. Wait about 6 hours and then you are ready to end the day with a light and perfect summery meal. I love knowing that I have a great dinner at the end of a long summer day and seeing the jars in the fridge made me happy each time I opened the door. The only thing I will do differently next time is to make a double batch so I can bring lucky friends and family their own jar to enjoy.

Oh, I'm glad to find another fan! Beautiful sunflowers :)
Yea...me too, will make a bigger batch next so that I can give some to friends and relatives :) they love salmon and this great cured salmon in oil would be a surprise for them,. Thumbs up for this salmon in jar !
I'm going to make this the next time I have a dinner party and serve each guest his or her own little jar as an appetizer.
I'm glad you enjoyed this. I ran out of time, so didn't get to make it, but your is motivating!
Im going to make some up to give as gifts also! They are just so cool looking! and delicious!
Yes, the sunflowers really DO look good with your pyrexed salmon and potatoes! Now I know what to make for friends next time we get invited to dinner at their homes ;-).
Since I 'outsourced' this one to a willing friend, I guess I missed out on the convenience of having a no-fuss meal ready after a day of work/play. Gorgeous picture of the sunflowers!
They look pretty.
Lovely sunflowers!
Everything looks so pretty...
Love the shot of the sunflowers! I enjoyed this week's recipe, too, though I made the bonne idée version of the salmon.
Your photos are so nice! I've never heard of that maze...I'll have to check it out sometime!
I love the idea of making some for a gift. I haven't made this one yet but it sounds wonderful so will have to do it soon.
