We survived Irene! Although we had no power/water for five days, no one was hurt and we all survived relatively unscathed. Things went from fun/adventurous/campout to cranky/whiny/scared kids in about 48 hours. It is now Day 8 Post Storm and we just got our tv/phone/internet back. Hopefully I will have the other broken appliances fixed soon and life will return to normal. I feel sadness for those who have lost their lives and homes to this storm and keep everyone in my thoughts and prayers.
Chocolate Spice Quickies, this week's
Tuesdays with Dorie selection, were the perfect cookie to weather the hurricane weather. They were easy to prepare during my pre-storm preparations and lasted for several days in tupperware while we ate by candlelight. I used a
Chocolove Coffee Crunch bar in my cookies and it gave them a little extra texture and flavor. (Lesson Learned: do not give four year old coffee items late at night. They will bounce off the walls and you will regret your choices.) If you want the full recipe, visit Jessica of

I'm so glad your power is back and everyone is okay- how scary! The cookies sound like the perfect snack to have around and I can't wait to try them!
Im so glad you have power again. I can't stand to be with out it for 15 min. let alone 8days! The cookies look great and Im sure it felt nice to bake again!
I should have known you would make a party out of a hurricane! Complete with chocolate. Looks nice to see them all camping out together like that. Happy you are safe and sound.

Wow, so glad the power is back for your family. That must have been something. We were very lucky that we never lost power. Our house got a little water, but the power stayed on. Our little village was hammered, though. Glad you had some cookies to make things a little better. Be safe!
